Bonnet Scoops

We initially spotted these natty little add-ons looking through one of our Land Rover mags.

On closer inspection and after some research it appeared that they actually are designed to improve the air flow into the in-car ventilation system. They perform a kind of ram air effect.

Admittedly you only need one as the air vent intake is only on one side, but for styling and symmetry we added them to both sides.

They are available in three different sizes. The size difference relates to how high they sit above the wing top level.
We opted for the medium sized ones as they sit flush approximately with the line of the raised castellations on the bonnet. We bought these from [MM 4x4] at Billing 2004.

They are a cheap add on that adds a little extra to the front end especially when equipped with the fine metal mesh inside to add that engineered look.

They are a doddle to fit, and they came with stainless steel screws which won't rust.

- The wire mesh was fitted inside the scoop by first bending it into shape, and then simply fixing it in place with some fibre glass and resin.

-
The existing wing top vents were removed and placed in the underside of the new bonnet scoops.

- The existing holes were marked through and drilled so that the new scoops would line up.

- Then the existing wing top vents were replaced onto the wingtops and the new scoops just fit down on top of them, with a thin line of rubber between the two. Then simply screw the whole lot down.
