Steering Guard:

As our off roading excursions became more and more adventurous, we decided that we should invest in a steering guard to, as the name would suggest, protect our steering linkages from expensive damage.

Again this is an item which, although practical and functional, is also very much on display at the front of your vehicle. So in that regard it is important to choose one which best fits in with the look of your vehicle.

There are plenty of steering guards on offer in the Land Rover mags. They come in varying thicknesses of both steel and aluminium. Really the choice comes down to budget and appearance, as they all perform the same function in pretty much the same way.

The steering guard we chose was one supplied by [Rebel 4X4]. It is 8mm milled aluminium, with 3 rows of holes milled through it. These not only add to the look of the guard, they also allow for easier cleaning of the topside of the guard.

Fitting the steering guard was another simple job as everything needed to fit it was supplied in the kit. No drilling, or marking is needed. The brackets supplied bolt straight through existing chassis holes, and the guard itself machine screws straight onto the brackets. When fitted and tightened it became surprisingly solid and added some much needed low down brightness to our predominantly dark car and has really lifted the front end.

In the time that we have had the guard it has taken some minor punishment from fallen trees and hacked off tree stumps, and for that we are glad we have it.
